At SoCast, we know that for radio stations, being “local” is more than just a tagline—it’s about providing the essential information your listeners need to navigate their day. That’s why we are thrilled to introduce the New SoCast Weather System, a powerful, automated toolset designed to keep your audience informed across your website and mobile app.
Whether it’s a sudden storm warning or a simple daily forecast, the new system ensures your digital presence is as reliable and timely as your on-air personality.
What’s New?
The SoCast Weather System isn’t just a simple widget; it’s a fully integrated suite of tools that gives you total control over how weather data is presented to your community.
1. Trusted Global & Government Data Sources
We’ve integrated with the industry’s most reliable providers to ensure accuracy. You can now choose from:
- SoCast Weather: Robust global coverage included right out of the box.
- National Weather Service (NWS): The gold standard for U.S.-based markets.
- Environment Canada: Precise, localized data for Canadian stations, including French-language support.
- Premium Integrations: Support for Weatherology (including audio forecasts!) and World Weather Online.
2. Automated Weather-to-Blog Updates
Save time while staying first-to-market. You can now toggle a setting that automatically creates blog posts whenever a weather warning is issued for your area. These posts live in your news feed, boosting your SEO and keeping your site fresh without any manual effort.
3. Integrated Mobile Push Notifications
Connect your weather alerts directly to your mobile app. By linking your weather blog category to a notification group, your listeners can receive an immediate push notification the moment a weather warning is issued.
4. Highly Customizable Weather Widgets
Our new WPBakery elements allow you to design the perfect weather experience. Mix and match widgets to create a comprehensive weather page or a simple home-page snapshot:
- Current Conditions: Real-time “Feels Like” temperatures, wind, and sky conditions.
- Short-Term Forecasts: Hourly breakdowns for the day ahead.
- Long-Term Outlooks: 5-7 day summaries to help listeners plan their week.
- Location Selector: Let your audience toggle between multiple saved cities with a single click.
Why This Matters for Your Station
Radio is a companion, and weather is the most searched-for local content. By automating this process, you ensure that your station remains the primary destination for local info, even when the studio is voice-tracked or the office is closed. You get the credit for being the local authority, and the system does the heavy lifting.
How to Get Started
Setting up the new system is easy and requires no technical background:
- Select Your Provider: Head to Website > Weather Settings and choose the provider that fits your market.
- Add Your Cities: Pinpoint the exact locations your listeners care about (up to 20 cities!).
- Place Your Elements: Use the SoCast Page Builder to drop weather widgets onto your Home or Weather pages.
