Spring is the perfect time to dust things off and clean things up, including your website! While we’re all working from home, and limiting our time outdoors, now is the perfect time to take a look at your website and make some changes. Below are some simple ideas to get you started:
Clean Up Branding: Make sure all buttons, and call to action colors are consistent with your theme, this will create a synonymous and more dependable user experience. Use colored labels and create header sections so listeners can easily find the content they are searching for.
Clean Up Media: Make sure all your media is properly labeled in the media library. This includes using media categories (if you’re not already), and re-naming images, audio files etc for SEO purposes. Also deleting duplicates, and outdated branding assets will make it easier for your team to find and use the right media when needed.
Clean Up Your Blog Categories, Pages & Sidebars: For those of you using the RSS Subscription tool and/or Syndication, you’ll know how important this is. Make sure you don’t have duplicate blog category names, delete any blog categories that have no blogs assigned to them. For pages, make sure your page url’s match the page title, especially if you re-use pages as this is important for SEO, and delete any old pages, or drafts that you no longer need or use. Clean up sidebars by making sure they are named properly for either the content that’s on them, or where they are used on the platform (i.e contest sidebar)
Update Events & Contests: With Covid-19 continuing to change our lives, now is a great time to go through your events and contests and either label them as postponed, or set them back to drafts. A great idea might be to make a new category for virtual concerts or events from artists and creators with links to their Facebook or Instagram live.
Overall, the idea of spring cleaning your website is meant to be used to give it a fresh update. I’d start on the homepage and go page by page, and make note of any outdated assets, text, and CTA’s. Check for things like broken or not properly sized images or embed codes, layout issues, and branding.
